Cathay Pacific feels the tension

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Group's cargo revenue in H1/2019 was HKD 11,498 million (EUR 1.3 billion), 11.4% less than in H1/2018. Flown cargo capacity of Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon increased by 1.1% (8,635 million aftk), principally due to additional belly cargo space in newly acquired passenger aircraft. Facing weak demand, the carrier rationalised freighter capacity and placed more emphasis on shipments of specialist cargo.

Lithium-ion batteries (UN3480 PI965 Section 1A and 1B) can now be carried by its freighter aircraft thanks to a new fire containment bag. Introducing this safety solution means the embargo on battery shipments will be lifted.

The fire containment bags come in two sizes, for shipments up to 30 kg and 50 kg per bag, and are available at all of Cathay Pacific Cargo’s 46 freighter destinations. (ah)
