CBP Baltimore intercepts less stolen vehicles
US Customs and Border Protection officers in the Baltimore office recovered 250 stolen vehicles in 2024, valued at USD 9.6 million.
Whilst this marks a 27% drop from 2023, Baltimore still ranked second nationwide. The recovered vehicles were mostly high-value SUVs destined for West Africa, Iraq and the UAE. The most expensive was a 2020 Rolls Royce Cullinan, worth USD 467,700.
CBP credits the decline to its officers’ vigilance and shifting tactics by smuggling networks. Many stolen cars were hidden inside shipping containers under household goods. Most vehicles were from recent years and included 72 different models.
CBP continues to inspect vehicle documentation and match VINs against law enforcement databases to combat international auto theft and disrupt criminal profits at US ports. (ah)
