CBP intercepts two major cocaine shipments
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have intercepted two major cocaine shipments in early October. At the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico, officers found 365 pounds (165 kg) of cocaine concealed in eight duffel bags inside a cargo container arriving from the Dominican Republic. In a separate case at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, TX, CBP officers discovered 335 pounds (152 kg) of cocaine hidden in a tractor-trailer carrying trailer parts (photo).
Together, the seizures total more than 700 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding USD 8 million. CBP officials said the operations demonstrate the agency’s continued focus on disrupting transnational criminal networks through advanced screening, canine units and inter-agency cooperation, protecting US borders and communities from narcotics trafficking.
