Celtic Freight forced to close down

For 23 years, the South African transport company Celtic Freight offered primarily road haulage services between South Africa and Zambia. Now this once-thriving business has come to the end. The company had to cease trading, because it could no longer guarantee the safety of its drivers, who suffered many xenophobic attacks last year.

As Celtic Freight announced, the South African police was not able to protect the drivers. In South Africa, xenophobic attacks on migrants from other African countries frequently occur. The closure is especially bitter, since Celtic Freight has invested heavily recently.

As the South African trade journal FTW reports, the transport company opened a new logistics terminal only a short while ago. The facility in Benoni, north of Johannesburg, comprises three storage halls and tarred parking spaces for trucks. (mw)
