Chipolbrok's newbuilds come into play

Liner Chipolbrok will soon put a number of newbuilds into service. The first newcomer is M/V “Tai Xing” on her maiden voyage from Penglai in the Chinese province of Shandong to Puerto Bolivar in Ecuador.

The vessel is the first of four newbuild XL mpp vessels in this serial described in Chinese media as the largest in their class so far.

Each of these carriers has a DWT capacity of around 62,000 t summer draft, grain space of about 75,000 cbm, bale space of ca. 73,400 cbm, and about 5,000 sqm on the flush weather deck as space for extra sized project cargo. The crane capacities in tandem lift will be able to master 300 t SWL. Length and breadth are 199.90 m resp. 32.26 m.

The newbuilding orders had been given in April 2020, the welding of first parts took place in November 2020 and the official keel laying in May 2021. The vessel was handed over in June 2021, first driving tests were performed in July 2021 and the delivery ceremony to the owners was held on 6 December 2021.

The three sister ships will be the M/V “Herbert” named after a Polish poet, the M/V “Pilecki” named after the war hero and resistance fighter Witold Pilecki, and the M/V “Yong Xing” with another traditional name in the fleet originating from a county in the Chinese Hunan province. The last three ships described will be delivered to Chipolbrok in 2022. (sh)
