Circles in the sand in Brussels
Like the Port of Brussels, the Belgian football club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise cares about the environment and tries to contribute to a greener world. So the club decided to join forces with the Port of Brussels to organise the delivery of sand by river.
After arriving at the Port of Brussels by boat, 140 truck trips were necessary to carry the sand on the last mile to the Stade Marien.
Now, no less than 106.3 t of CO2 emissions were saved by transporting the 3,900 t of sand by barge to Brussels. This sand is required for the creation of the new playing surface and would normally be delivered by truck from the Netherlands. (cd)
