Circular Haven in Antwerp in the making

The first two concessionaires are breathing life into the Next Gen District in the Port of Antwerp. The commitment of Triple Helix and Bolder Industries is the first step towards the creation of a future hotspot for the circular economy. The partners hope to attract a cluster of circular businesses to the 880,000 sqm Next Gen District on the former General Motors site.

The Antwerp-based company Triple Helix will build a factory where polyurethane foam is processed into polyols from used material such as PET bottles.

Bolder Industries, on the other hand, will draw on the chemicals in used tyres for a recovery process in which 98% of the tyre's materials are used and 75% of the solid and liquid components find their way back into new tyres, rubber products and plastics.

The two new players will invest around EUR 100 million in the project and create at least 75 new jobs. After applying for the necessary permits, operations are expected to start no later than 2024. (sh)
