Civil green light for St. Stephan airfield
The former Swiss Air Force base St. Stephan (BE) has officially received approval from the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (Foca) to operate as a civilian airfield. With this decision, operator Prospective Concepts Aeronautics AG (PCA) obtains a permanent operating licence and can now develop the site for civil aviation and logistics purposes.
The new airfield (Icao: LSTS) will primarily serve aerospace development, manufacturing and maintenance companies based in St. Stephan. In addition to business and tourism flights to the Upper Simmental, the site is expected to play a role in regional air logistics, including flight testing, special cargo transport, and handling operations for aviation technology.
Following final cantonal approval in early 2026, PCA plans to modernise the infrastructure sustainably. (ah)
