CMA CGM and Nike launch electric river barge in Vietnam
CMA CGM has unveiled Southeast Asia’s first 100% electric container barge in Vietnam, developed with Gemadept via a joint venture named Green River Transportation.
The zero-emissions vessel will serve a 180 km route between Binh Duong and Cai Mep port near Ho Chi Minh City, cutting CO₂ emissions by 778 t annually.
A solar-powered charging station at the Gemalink terminal will supply up to 1 GWh of green electricity per year. Nike is the first partner to use this low-carbon solution for flows from its Vietnam factories. CMA CGM aims to replicate the model in other regions and expand its sustainable inland waterway services as part of its Net Zero 2050 strategy. (ah)
