CO2 reductions and business expansion go hand in hand
Lidl's new green fleet in Italy includes five biomethane-fuelled vehicles. The trucks are a result of the company's collaboration with IVECO, LC3 Trasporti and Edison. Lidl will use the vehicles to restock points of sale that are located close to the logistics centre in Somaglia in Northern Italy.
The company’s long-term goal is to gradually replace trucks that use fossil fuels by vehicles powered by alternative fuels.
In 2015, the retailer started to introduce the first LNG-fuelled trucks. Since then Lidl has managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 5.2% or 620,000 t of emissions while opening an average of 40 new points of sale per year. (ben)
