"Connecting Europe Express" in Switzerland
On its journey through Switzerland yesterday (Tuesday, 28 September), the EU's special train for the "Year of Rail" also made a stop at the Basel Wolf container terminal.
At this occasion, the federal office of transport, the Swiss association of public transport and the association of shippers announced their intention to jointly modernise railfreight transport - in line with developments in Europe.
Specifically, all wagons and locomotives will be equipped with digital automatic couplers. The special train, which recently started in Lisbon (Portugal), is an initiative of the EU and European rail companies. On its week's tour of Europe, the train is stopping in various cities to promote European climate targets. (ben)
