Contargo’s new terminal to handle ten trains

After a ground-beraking ceremony, construction work for the new container terminal in the inland port of Straubing-Sand, Bavaria (Germany) has begun.

The facility will be operated by Contargo Combitrac Straubing-Sand, a JV of Contargo, SFI and Ziegler Group. It will feature a new road-to-rail interface on an area of around 50,000 sqm and is scheduled to go into operation in 2025. It will have storage space for up to 1,000 teu and up to ten trains will arrive there every week.

The bimodal terminal will provide a new alternative for more sustainable logistics and more flexibility for freight forwarders, especially in times with truck driver shortage, the hinterland network said. (ben)
