Conveyor system for automotive supplier

Dematic will automate a new logistics centre for ZKW Lichtsysteme, an automotive supplier. At its headquarters in Wieselburg (Austria), ZKW is building a new property for production supplies, as the existing storage facilities are no longer sufficient.

In order to make the best possible use of the location's capacities, the intra-logistics specialist will install a Dematic multi-shuttle warehouse in a silo design with more than 60,000 container storage positions to accommodate as many headlamps as possible while saving space. In the warehousing system, 140 autonomous shuttles will take hold of the containers and transport them directly to the work stations for palletising and to the gates for incoming and outgoing goods.

Furthermore, the fully-automated 3 km conveyor system will carry the components through the plant to the assembly hall. With this upgrade, ZKW Lichtsysteme expects to increase its throughput rate to up to 1,500 containers per hour.

The start of construction is scheduled for the third quarter of this year. If everything goes to plan, the cutting-edge logistics centre will come on stream in the second half of 2021. (mw)
