Cool chain concentration in Latin America

A player from Brazil is currently reshuffling Latin America's logistics cool chain scene: cold storage operator Emergent Cold Latin America (Emergent), headquartered in Sao Paulo, has acquired Friopacífico, a major cold storage business in Chile.

This takeover marks Emergent's general entry into Chile. Joaquin Del Campo, general manager of Friopacífico, will continue to manage the business that operates over 47,000 pallet positions across three facilities located in Talcahuano and San Pedro de la Paz, close to the main ports in Chile’s Biobío region.

Emergent has also acquired Martini Meat, a provider of cold storage, logistics and value-added services in Brazil. This purchase, which Emergent completed through its operating subsidiary DMX Logística, adds four cold storage facilities to its growing regional network.

Martini Meat operates facilities in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, all near South Brazil’s largest refrigerated cargo ports. Its network comprises 74,000 pallet positions, 69,000 sqm of storage capacity and over 400 employees. (sh)
