Cyber threat under control?

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has published two new unified requirements (UR) on cyber resilience, which will be mandatory for all ships whose construction contract is signed on or after 1 January 2024.

The new URs, called E26 and E27, were developed based on the preparations carried out by the joint working group. This UR covers five key aspects: equipment identification, protection, attack detection, response, and recovery. UR E27 is intended to make sure that third-party equipment providers ensure and enforce system integrity.

IACS secretary general Robert Ashdown: “These two cyber security URs provide minimum goal-based requirements for the cyber resilience of new ships and for the cyber security of onboard systems and equipment - an important milestone." (sh)
