Daimler to invest in Spanish van plant

The German vehicle manufacturer Daimler will spend around EUR 190 million on the Mercedes-Benz facility in Vitoria, in the Basque region in Spain, where the company produce vans. The facility will use the funds to prepare for the production of the new generation of medium-size vans like the Vito models, which will start in 2014.

The investment will primarily cover the modernisation and reorganisation of parts of the facility. The Vito models, which have been produced at the Vitoria plant since 2003, are vans that meet the needs of commercial customers from the skilled trades, services, and professional passenger transport sectors. The Vitoria plant was built in the early 1950s and produces about 75,000 vans annually. (ben)
