Deliveries by cargo bike
Trans-o-flex has started a trial of two Rytle cargo bikes in Bremen, Germany, lasting several months. They are intended to replace previous deliveries with classic vans in Bremen's city centre.
The bikes have two electric motors which are built into the rear wheels and support the bikers up to a speed of 25 km/h. The bikes can carry a box with about 1.4 cbm of cargo space and a payload of 180 kg. Nine of these boxes in Euro pallet format fit into a 10 ft swap body which serves as a mini hub.
The system is not yet designed for the delivery of actively temperature-controlled consignments, but this additional feature is planned for a future expansion of the project. (ben)
