Direct steel deliveries on demand

Swiss railfreight operator SBB Cargo is working with logistics partner Ultra-Brag to implement a climate-friendly transport solution for scrap metal for steel recovery for the Beltrame company Stahl Gerlafingen.

Instead of being transported by road as before, up to 100,000 t of steel scrap per year will be logistically managed from abroad so that the cargo can be delivered on demand by rail from the Swiss Rhine ports directly to the Gerlafingen plant.

Ultra-Brag will take over temporary storage and loading of the steel scrap. The new solution relieves the roads of around 4,000 trucks annually.

SBB Cargo started operating rail services for Stahl Gerlafingen within Switzerland already some time ago. (ben)
