DP World sees dwindling volumes
DP World, a Dubai-based port operator, noted a decrease in container volumes in H1/2013. Volumes fell 5.8% to 26.6 m teu across its group of container terminals. DP World said "challenging market conditions” were the main cause.
Last year, DP World handled 56.1 million teu. In H2/2013, the company will start to operate Embraport, a new Brazilian private multi-modal port terminal that is being built next to the Port of Santos, Brazil’s biggest container terminal. DP World's new terminal London Gateway is scheduled to open in Q4 this year.
