Driver shortage has an immense impact

According to a new study conducted by logistics experts from the universities of St. Gallen (Switzerland), Dresden and Würzburg-Schweinfurt (both Germany), the shortage of driving personnel cost the German economy an additional EUR 10 billion in 2022.

A shortage of more than 70,000 truck drivers is expected for 2023. In addition to measures to attract new staff and improve the job’s profile and image, the industry urgently requires digital solutions to optimise processes for existing capacities.

The study concludes that truck drivers are basically satisfied with their career choice, but that there is a concrete need to improve framework conditions. (ben)
