DSV pilots autonomous trucks
DSV, together with partners DM-Drogerie Markt, Plus and Iveco, has completed a successful pilot programme testing semi-autonomous trucks between logistics hubs in Krefeld and Hennef (Germany).
According to DSV the trial marked Germany’s first public road deployment of an AI-based driver assistance system developed by Plus, installed in Iveco’s ‘S-Way’ trucks. The system supports autonomous manoeuvres such as lane-keeping and lane-changing while aiming to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%.
The test focused on depot-to-depot transport because the software is suited for recurring routes. It confirmed improvements in safety and reliability. For now, safety drivers remain essential, with future roles expected to evolve toward supervision and support from a control tower. (js)
