Duty-free rail corridor between Trieste and Fürnitz

In order to provide more options to shift freight transports to rail, ÖBB is planning to expand the logistics centre Austria Süd (LCA-Süd) in Fürnitz in Carinthia and establish a rail duty-free corridor between Trieste and Fürnitz. The facility can then be developed into an international logistics hub.

The rail duty-free corridor is intended to relieve the port of Trieste. Some of the arriving containers will be loaded directly from the ship onto the train in Trieste and processed and further distributed by the customs declaration service in Fürnitz.

The train connections between the port of Trieste and the LCA Süd, which already run several times a week, are also to be augmented with the addition of shuttle services. (ben)
