E-locos increase capacity and train speed
The Finnish private operator Fenniarail has signed an agreement with the German manufacturer Siemens for the purchase of four-axle electric Vectron locomotives. The deal includes the delivery of one locomotive by the end of October 2023 with the option for additional locomotives.
The acquisition increases the transport capacity as well as the current train weights, Fenniarail said. The acquired locomotives have been designed for Finnish conditions and are particularly suitable as freight trains. One Vectron can pull an over 2,000 t train with higher average speed than diesel locomotives. (ben)
