Electric reefer aiming to set new benchmark
Unit45 is showcasing its newest fully electric reefer container at 'Intermodal Europe 2025' in Barcelona. Designed for road, rail and sea transport, the advanced unit features the 'Star Cool 1.1' system with the capability of running on ultra-low-GWP refrigerant R1234YF, alongside LBA insulation foam and waterborne paint. Together, these innovations aim to mark a new sustainability benchmark in refrigerated intermodal transport as the company reported. The contianer is built for a lifespan of up to ten years.
The 'Star Cool 1.1' delivers low leakage rates and energy efficiency, giving it one of the industry’s lowest Total Equivalent Warming Impact (TEWI) scores as the company reported. "This gives our customers the flexibility to choose the refrigerant that best fits their operation and local conditions for today and tomorrow," said Georg Fösel, Manager, Refrigeration Technology and Industry Affairs at Maersk Container Industry.
