Engine failure hits Boeing freighter too

The operators of B777 freighters are likely to get off with no more than a black eye. After the dramatic engine failure of a United Airlines B777 over Denver, pictured with spectacular photographs in the public media, Boeing recommends suspending operations of the 69 in-service and 59 in-storage Triple Sevens powered by Pratt & Whitney 4000 engines until the inspections of this model are completed. In actual fact, only B777-200 and B777-300 are affected, since the B777F are equipped with GE90 engines.

Meanwhile, also on Saturday, 20 February 2021, a B747-400F of Longtail Aviation leaving Maastricht for New York suffered a serious damage to one of its P&W engines, which then scattered parts on the ground, injuring two people. (ah)
