Etihad expands Airbus widebody fleet

Etihad Airways has announced a major expansion of its Airbus widebody fleet, placing firm orders for six A330-900s, seven additional A350-1000s, and three A350F freighters. Signed at the Dubai Airshow, the agreement also includes commitments to lease nine more A330-900s from Avolon. Etihad's CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, said the new aircraft will enhance medium- and long-haul capabilities while significantly boosting cargo capacity. He emphasised that the A330neo offers an ideal blend of efficiency and flexibility, while the A350-1000 provides outstanding long-haul performance, supporting the airline's strategy to build one of the world's most modern and efficient fleets.

Airbus highlighted the deepening partnership, noting that Etihad's investment reflects confidence in next-generation aircraft designed to reduce fuel burn, emissions and operating costs. The A350 Family and A330neo both feature advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials and the latest Rolls-Royce engines, delivering up to 25% greater efficiency than previous models. The A350F will meet future ICAO CO2 standards, and both aircraft families can operate using up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel, with a target of 100% capability by 2030.
