EU clears way for retreads

The EU Commission has officially confirmed that retreaded tyres meet the requirements of the EU's taxonomy regulations, clearing the way for their broader use in sustainable transport strategies.

This marks a breakthrough for circular economy efforts in the tyre industry, according to Azur, Germany’s ‘Allianz Zukunft Reifen’, an alliance for the future of tyres, and the German tyre trade association BRV.

Retreaded tyres are now exempt from EU labelling requirements, making them a compliant and resource-efficient alternative to new tyres.

"This confirmation is a decisive step towards climate protection and resource conservation in road transport," said Azur network coordinator Christina Guth. (js)
