Eurogate in transformation

The management of the Eurogate has initiated a comprehensive transformation programme with the aim of achieving sustainable improvements in productivity and cost reductions of EUR 84 million p.a. across the group. This programme is to be implemented in full by 2024.

From January to September 2020, the container terminals of the Eurokai group handled about 8 million teu, 9.5% down from the same period in 2019 (8.9 million teu). Throughput volumes in Italy dropped by 15.6% and by 7.6% in Germany. Cargo handling levels in the other terminals in Morocco, Cyprus, Portugal and Russia declined by 11.3%. Volumes remained low in Q3/2020 with no sign upward trend in sight.

The group result also "decreased significantly" compared to the previous year, both in terms of the operating result and income from investments. A negative overall result is forecast for 2020.

The La Spezia Container Terminal S.p.A. used the especially low throughput levels in Q2/2020 to temporarily withdraw not required moorings and areas for repairs from service, thus minimising the impact of structural limitations on already restricted terminal operations. (cd)
