Eurogate said to be bidding for two new ports in Israel

According to Israeli newspapers, the German port operator Eurogate intends to bid to run two newly built and privately operated Israeli ports in the Mediterranean cities of Haifa and Ashdod.

The Israeli government wants to construct privately owned ports, claiming that they will make shipping operations cheaper and more efficient in the country, which pretty much depends on seaports to handle imports and exports. However, due to strong unions, the shipping industry had to deal with many strike actions over the past years.

Eurogate has not officially commented on these claims.
