European rail carriers support DAC

A coalition of more than a dozen railfreight companies and several European rail associations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote digital automatic coupling (DAC) across Europe. With this sector initiative, Rail Freight Forward (RFF) fully supports the ambitions of the German council presidency in this issue.

As coupling/decoupling is one of the two main procedures in train operations (train assembly, train driving), its automation is of utmost importance, the signatories said.

DAC enables smart capacity increase for European rail infrastructure and will help to achieve the goals of the European «green deal» modal shift to rail, RFF added. (ben)
