"Ever Given" now free to go

As the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) confirmed recently, it has agreed on a settlement for the compensation it is demanding from the owners of the mega container vessel "Ever Given".

Details of the transaction with Shoei Kisen Kaisha, the Japanese owner of the ULCV, were not disclosed. The deal was supposed to be inked on Wednesday, 7 July 2021 in Ismailia. The vessel would be also freed the same day, the SCA said.

The "Ever Given" had run aground in the canal on 23 March 2021 and was extracted almost a week later. Until now, it was kept "stranded" in the Bitter Lake of the canal while the agreement was negotiated. It is now heading for its original destination, Rotterdam. (cd)
