Evolution series joins Simandou
Wabtec and Rio Tinto SimFer have unveiled the first ES43ACi evolution series locomotive built for the Simandou project in Guinea, Africa’s largest mining and infrastructure development project, according to Wabtec.
Assembled at Wabtec’s Marhowra plant in India, the 4,500HP locomotive is tailored for the 600 km TransGuinéen Railway, which will transport high-grade iron ore from the Simandou mountains to port.
The project represents "a transformational opportunity for Guinea, which will support economic growth in the country", as Wabtec stated. The company hailed the order as its largest heavy-haul locomotive export from India. (js)
