Expansion pays off
Container transit on the Russian Railways' network along the China – Europe – China route increased by a factor of 2.2 in Q1/2021 compared to the same period last year, rising to 162,600 teu.
Shipments of loaded containers increased by a factor of 2.1 to 151,500 teu, which carried a total of about 1.2 million t of freight, a 2.7-fold increase.
Since the beginning of the year, transit shipments from China to Europe have grown 2.1 times to 105,800 teu, while deliveries from Europe to China were up 2.3 times to 56,800 teu.
RZD attributed the growth of transit volumes to competitive pricing, the improvement and expansion of the range of services and the diversification of transit routes. (ben)
