Exporting country sounds alarm bells

According to ADV, the association representing the interests of the German airports, its members' freight volumes dropped to 353,997 in January 2019, a downswing of 7.5 % compared to the same period last year. Unloaded cargo receded by 6.2% to 177.333 t, and loaded cargo decreased by 8.2% to 176,664 t.

For the first time, the total quantity of imported goods is higher than that of exports – "an alarming sign for Germany's focus on exports," ADV warns.

Developments described in the past few months continue unchanged in the new year. Add to this the flight cancellations caused by the strike at Eurowings at the turn of the year. The European airlines' suspension of flights to China has also had negative effect on business. (ah)
