Fiata: survey on carriers' conduct

With three shipping alliances dominating the shipping markets, Fiata, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, is calling on its members to provide feedback on market development and shipping line practices that are considered as being unfair.

Fiata said in a press release that "freight forwarders have been faced with moves by certain shipping lines to cut or restrict their access to services." According to the association headquartered in Geneva, the big carriers "continue to expand their services far outside their port-to-port activities."

The profitable years of 2020 and 2021, Fiata continues, "allowed carriers to invest in expanding into services traditionally offered by the freight forwarding industry, with ambitions to become vertically integrated providers of door-to-door logistics solutions."

Fiata sees its role in protecting competition that must take place on a level playing field. It speaks of "unfair competitive advantages" for the shipping companies and will collect examples, samples and proof. (sh)
