Finnlines - a blue ship for a 'Green Lane'

Finnlines has introduced its 'Green Lane’ service, offering low-carbon sea transportation through the use of  biofuels or electricity. Fully-electric shipments are now available on the Naantali–Kapellskär route, using the hybrid ro-pax vessels 'Finnsirius’ (pictured) and 'Finncanopus’.

The ships’ batteries are charged with shore power, enabling fossil-free operation and reducing emissions by 22%. A second option uses biofuels on short-sea routes including Malmö–Travemünde and Hanko–Gdynia, with up to 90% emission cuts. The Green Lane is also available for passengers.

Finnlines plans to further expand its green fleet with three methanol-powered ro-pax vessels by 2029, aiming to offer fossil-free freight between Finland and Germany. (ah)
