First nine Mason mega rail tracks opened


Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) in the USA has put into operation the first nine of 18 new working tracks in the framework of is the Mason mega rail project.

 

More than 2.2 million staff hours have already gone into the planning and construction of the port of Savannah’s Mason mega rail terminal thus far.

 

With the opening of the first nine tracks, the project has passed a milestone, said GPA. The project includes almost 38 km of new track, 88 automated switches and rail control devices, as well as the rail and power infrastructure to support the operation of rail-mounted gantry cranes. The added rail capacity will better accommodate 3050-m long unit trains on the Garden City terminal. (ben)
