First satellite "made in Luxemburg" to Cayenne

Cargolux transported ESAIL, a satellite built by LuxSpace under an ESA partnership project for tracking ship, from Luxembourg to Cayenne, French Guiana this week. The launch of the first satellite "made in Luxembourg" of its kind is foreseen for 23 March in Kourou.

With the help of a small hand-operated crane, the satellite was stowed in a specially developed transport box in Betzdorf and taken to Luxembourg’s Findel airport, from where it then took off on board a B747F. The service to Cayenne was an exceptional stopover for Cargolux on its South American rotation that does not usually cover this destination.

Cargolux president and CEO Richard Forson: "As a Luxembourg-based airline, it was important for us to contribute to our home country’s development along with other Luxembourg companies." (ah)
