FMC clears 2M

The USA's federal maritime commission (FMC) has given the 2M vessel-sharing agreement envisaged between Maersk Line and MSC the green light after a 45 day review.

The approval enables 2M to become a lawful entity in the US trades on Saturday, 11 October.

Four out of five commissioners at the FMC voted to approve M2 and not to seek further information about the impact of the alliance on exporters and ports. However, one FMC commissioner - Richard Lidinsky Jr - said there were still many unanswered questions.

Regulators in Europe and China are yet to approve of the planned alliance.
