FMS expands African footprint
Fr. Meyer’s Sohn (FMS), the Hamburg-based global logistics provider, has acquired South African freight forwarder GAC Laser International Logistics and its affiliated companies. The acquisition marks a key step in FMS’s African growth strategy. Founded in 2007, GAC Laser offers multimodal logistics, warehousing, trucking and project cargo services. It operates in South African hubs including Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Gqeberha. The business will continue under the name Fr. Meyer’s Sohn South Africa and remain led by Simon Hayes and the existing management team.
FMS managing director Heiko Voigt welcomed the 246 new employees, noting that the move strengthens the group’s network and service portfolio on the continent. Hayes highlighted the benefits of joining FMS’s international network and digital platforms, which will enable the South African arm to expand its offering and deliver added value to customers. (js)
