For a few dollars more

The shortage of empties is opening a new chapter. CMA CGM has launched an early container return incentive programme. It is employed not only at the FMS terminal in Los Angeles, but at all CMA CGM return locations in Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Kansas City, KS; and Memphis, TN.

The programme started on 16 May 2022, and will continue until mid-summer (15 July 2022). Its goal centres on accelerating the return of empty containers. The unprecedented spike in demand, leading to severe congestion throughout North America’s supply chain, made this step necessary.

The new 60-day incentive programme is projected to result in approximately 43,000 dry containers being put back into circulation within four days of pickup on or after 16 May 2022. A 300 USD credit per dry container returned to eligible locations will be granted over a period of one to four calendar days. (sh)
