Forgeries and fake ID in air cargo shipments

US customs and border protection (CBP) officers in Louisville, KY, where UPS is operating its global hub, have made no less than 400 seizures of counterfeit identification in the past six months, including 28 fake birth certificates, 5,063 counterfeit driver’s licences and 46 fraudulent passports.

More recently, on 7 March 2020, CBP seized 73 kg of cocaine (estimated value USD 1.8 million) inside several parcel boxes arriving at San Juan airport on a cargo aircraft arriving from Bogotá (Colombia).

Roberto Vaquero, assistant director of field operations for border security in Puerto Rico, said that  "transnational criminal organisations select diverse routes in the supply chain to introduce narcotics. Businesses and companies in the supply chain must reinforce their security systems to avoid inconvenience." (ah)
