Frankfurt airport pilots paperless airfreight pick-up
A new digital process for import freight pick-up has entered pilot phase at Frankfurt Airport. Developed by Allivate, the "Smart Pick-up" system replaces physical pick-up slips with digital authorisation via the "FAIR@Link" cargo community platform.
Freight can now be authorised for collection up to two hours before landing, streamlining the process and enhancing transparency. The pilot involves DB Schenker, Kühne+Nagel, LUG and CHI Cargo. It integrates customs status, dangerous goods information and truck slot booking into a single interface.
"This is a major leap for digitalising cargo handovers," said allivate CEO Martina Schikorr (second from left). The solution aims to reduce errors, prevent misuse, and enhance security. Smart Pick-up is scheduled for full rollout across Frankfurt Airport in the second half of 2025. (ah)
