French Guiana adopts new port technology

After the Indian Ocean (Mayotte), the Caribbean (Martinique) and the Pacific (Papeete and Nouméa), French Guiana is now also taking the port system Ci5 and Smart Ports on board. For France’s overseas departments and territories (the DOM-TOM's), 2021 will have been the year of the introduction of this new technology.

The initial agreement to bring AP+ to the port community of the maritime and port federation of French Guiana (UMEP) dates back to 2010. Now, eleven years later, Ci5 is taking over and currently over 200 Guyanese users are benefitting from the new port community system.

The first vessel to be managed by the Ci5 port logistics system was the container ship "CMA-CGM Saint-Laurent", which entered the port of Dégrad des Cannes on 2 December 2021.

After a preliminary definition phase in H1/2021 taking into account the special characteristics of French Guiana, e.g. particularly land imports/exports to and with Brazil and Surinam, MGI began training and assisting users in November on site, along with AP+ operator GIP+. (sh)
