Fresh funding for Ports of Lower Saxony

According to a draft for the supplementary budget for 2020, the German regional government of Lower Saxony is planning to provide EUR 20 million in additional funds for a “special port programme” with the aim of speeding up construction work, maintenance and dredging.

"The Lower Saxony seaport industry welcomes the plans of the Lower Saxony government to provide an additional EUR 20 million in 2020 for the expansion and maintenance of sea, island and inland ports," said Karsten Dirks, spokesman for the Lower Saxony seaports working group.

The medium-term financial planning for 2021 to 2023 continues to project a reduction in funds to EUR 30 million annually. The Lower Saxony seaports working group brings together nine Lower Saxony seaports in Brake, Cuxhaven, Emden, Leer, Nordenham, Oldenburg, Papenburg, Stade and Wilhelmshaven. (mw)
