Further extension of Californian deadline

The Californian ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have once again postponed the introduction of the “container dwell fee” in San Pedro Bay, this time until 1 July 2022.

Since the programme was publicly announced in late October 2021, the backlog of containers has improved. In total, the two ports witnessed a combined decline of 31% of boxes on their docks. The executive directors of both ports again agreed to jointly reassess the fee implementation in one week's time.

At the same time, the Long Beach and Los Angeles boards of harbour commissioners have both extended the fee programme until the end of July. If implemented, ocean carriers can be charged a fee of USD 100 for each import container dwelling nine days or more at the terminal, and a further USD 100 per box per day until the container leaves the terminal.
