Germany fortifying military mobility
The German army (Bundeswehr) and Germany’s federal office for logistics and mobility (Balm) signed a cooperation agreement on 14 July 2025 to enhance national defence logistics.
Balm president Christian Hoffmann and lieutenant-general André Bodemann formalised the deal as part of the ‘Operations Plan Germany’.
The plan aims to secure the alliance Nato’s eastern flank, amid rising security concerns. Given Germany’s central position, it serves as a key transit hub.
Under the agreement, Balm will support the Bundeswehr with transport coordination, early-warning tasks and contribute to the national programme.
Bodemann stressed that only joint action can ensure effective military mobility, while Hoffmann underlined the importance of a binding civil-military partnership.
