Ghana to re-launch national airline

The Republic of Ghana intends to re-launch an airline starting with aircraft built in North America. During this week's Dubai Air Show in UAE, aviation minister Joseph Kofi Adda says that the carrier, to be based in Accra, would establish the capital city as a strategic hub that serves cities across West Africa.

Future routes would include destinations in Europe, North America and Asia, and the long-term plan is to open the airline to private investment and operation.

He signed a MoU with Boeing for three B787-9 with a price value of USD 877.5 million according to list prices, and a letter of intent with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada to purchase up to six Dash 8-400, which, according to Adda, "offers the perfect mix of passenger amenities, cargo capacity, operational economics and environmental credentials".
