Good news from closed zoo thanks to CBP

Cincinnati officers of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently received exciting news about a special delivery: a female armadillo banded lizard at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden gave birth to a live, healthy baby. It's quite possible this new little reptile nor his mother would be alive and well-cared-for had it not been for the officers and specialists at the local port of entry discovering them in November 2019.

The reptiles were packed in a shipment from South Africa destined to South Florida without appropriate documentation: it was manifested as "toy animals, t-shirts, and markers" and contained not only an assortment of stuffed animals. The local zoo agreed to provide animal care for the lizards. Once it reopens, they will be part of the exhibit in the Dragons building. (ah)
