Gothenburg gains second Asia link
The port of Gothenburg now has two direct container services to Asia, following the Gemini Alliance’s decision to extend its Asia–Europe loop to Sweden.
On 4 September, the 18,270 teu 'Morten Maersk' (pictured) was the first vessel to call under the new arrangement, adding to MSC’s weekly service on Sundays. The services are integrated into the Railport Scandinavia network, which connects 26 inland terminals and aims to provide nationwide access to global markets.
Claes Sundmark, vice-president for sales and marketing, said the expanded offer strengthens Gothenburg’s position as a hub for Swedish industry. In parallel, infrastructure projects such as the 'Skandia Gateway' fairway deepening, scheduled for completion in 2027/2028, will increase capacity for larger vessels. (js)
